Hollyhocks II by Onita C. Asbury
watercolor, 13.5" x 9.5" (unframed), 20" x 16" (framed)

Onita C. Asbury
Although Onita has worked in oils, pastels and other media, she is now a watercolorist specializing in the medium which she finds exciting and challenging.  She works from life or photos and travels to paint, sketch, or photograph for her files.  She likes to find dramatic darks and lights and shadow patterns as well as bright contrasting colors in landscapes, flowers, or other subject mater.  Her strenghts are in design through the use of strong value and color patterns in light and shadow.
Onita has been in and around the art field since childhood, but her concentrated study of art began at retirement from accounting in 1990.  She is a member of the Pocatello Art Center, Pocatello Arts Council, Eagle Rock Art Guild, and the Idaho Watercolor Society.  She has attended workshops with several nationally renowned watercolorists such as Linda Doll and Carlton Plummer and has taken many university art courses.  She exhibits for viewing or sale at shows held by ERAG and the Pocatello Art Center and at art fairs throughout the Northwest.  Her home and studio are open as a personal gallery by appointment.
