Makart began drawing during early childhood. His parents have said he used to wear out the tops of the toes of his shoes from hours on his hands and knees drawing. Makart's childhood education in art took advantage of art courses offered by the local museum as well as those offered by the school system. He continued to draw and paint while pursuing a college education in engineering, architectural design, drafting and related subjects. His first exhibition was during those college years. Following college Makart continued drawing and painting while pursuing other gainful employment, designing and building a home/studio and pursuing other creative endeavors. Pen, ink, and watercolor remain favorites. The boldness of the pen, and brush, and the freshness and luminescence of the watercolor remain fasinating. A member of the Idaho Watercolor Society with juried and award winning works, as well as design and commissioned works in collections throughout the United States and around the world.
