Juror's Statement:

Mary Britten Lynch    It's always a pleasure to look at good art. What is not fun is having to leave some good works out of an exhibition.

There is always the question - why this? And not that. Judging a show imitates life...which is often not fair!

Creating a balance between the articulated and the suggested or between image and imagination leaves a painting open for varying opinions or interpretations.

I responded immediatly to those that were well organized into coherent statements. I felt that while facility was important, it isn't everything.

I also look for new awareness or fresh insight. Fluency of technical proficiency will always catch the eye, especially if the images are personal.

However, a simple statement even awkwardly painted can also be powerful.

I hope you like the show!
