STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Idaho Watercolor Society was founded in order to promote
and support the use of watercolor media and to educate the public as
to the significance of watercolor.
ELIGIBILITY
Active membership is open to watercolor painters residing in the state
of Idaho.
Annual dues are $25.00.
Membership dues must be paid in full by January 1, 2004 to be eligible
to enter the 25th Annual.

THE EXHIBITION
The 25th Annual will consist of two shows:
Main Exhibition: Approximately
60 - 70 paintings will be on exhibit at Boise University Student Union
Gallery April 28 - May 26.
Traveling Show: The Judge
will select 20 paintings from the Main Exhibition to travel throughout
the state of Idaho though December 2004.
JUROR
STEPHEN QUILLER
Stephen Quiller
is an internationally known painter who works primarily in watermedia,
monotypes, and intaglio printmaking. He is best known for his innovative
approach to watermedia painting: watercolor, goauche, acrylic, casein
and their combinations, and for his use of color. Mr. Quiller has authored
five books on painting and has had twelve videos produced. He is a signature
member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society,
Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, and Society for Painters in Casein
and Acrylic, among others. His paintings have been on covers and the
subject of articles in many leading art magazines. He has also been
a juror for a number of regional and national art exhibitions.
AWARDS
We
are anticipating $3500 in cash and merchandise awards for this exhibition.
Artists have the option to accept a Corporate Purchase Award in the
amount of $600 for their painting. To qualify for the Grumbacher Award,
the artist must use 50% Grumbacher materials in their painting.

SPECIFICATIONS
* Entries must be original, entirely the work of the entrant, executed
within the last two years and without the direct supervision of an
instructor.
* Entries must be executed in water soluble media on paper or paper-like
support. This may include collage of non-printed paper such as rice
paper or tissue.
* If matted, mats must be white or light/neutral and undecorated.
A darker liner is acceptable up to 1/2 inch.
* Outside dimensions of framed work must not exceed 40"
by 40". There is no minimum size restriction.
* Works must be framed with acrylic or plexiglass (no glass), strong
foam core backing (no masonite), and prepared for hanging with wires
only securely attached. No exposed glazing or brackets will be allowed.
* Paintings must be suitable for family viewing.
* All entries will be considered for the
2004 Traveling Show. Works selected to travel will not return until
late December, 2004.Early withdrawal from the show will result in the
member not being allowed to enter the 2005 IWS Annual Exhibition.
PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
* This committee is authorized to reject and/or remove any work which
does not meet the specifications. This pertains to work found in violation
either during the judging or during the exhibition. Standards will be
strictly enforced and awards will be forfeited.
* The juror may remove any work which differs substantially
from its slide representation.
ARTIST AGREEMENT
The receipt of an entry for the Exhibition will be understood as
an agreement on the part of the artist with all terms and conditions
aet forht in this Prospectus.
METHOD OF ENTRY
* Each member may submit up to 2 slides.
* The slides should be of excellent
quality. Poor quality jeopardize chance of acceptance.
Only slides with complete information will be considered.
* 35mm slides only. No tape or stick-on
lables may be used on the slide mount. Mylar masking on the inner slide
is acceptable.

SALES
Whether or not a painting is
offered for sale is at the discretion of the artist. IWS can assist
sales by accepting a check from a buyer and contacting the artist for
completion of the sale. Paintings purchased from either the Exhibition
or the Traveling Show will be delivered after completion of the applicable
schedule for that painting.
A commission to the IWS of 15% is required
from any member who sells work as a result of the Exhibition. IWS will
not require a donation from corporate Purchase Award paintings. An additional
commission of 15% will be charged by BSU for paintings sold during the
exhibition in Boise. Commercial galleries which co-sponsor the Traveling
Show may request a commission from the artist of up to 50%. PLEASE PRICE
YOUR WORK ACCORDINGLY.
NOTIFICATION
Notification of the juried show status will be returned by mail. Slides
of the work juried into the show will remain the property of the Idaho
Watercolor Society and will be included in the IWS library. This work
will also be included in the IWS Annual Juried Show DVD.
LIABILITY
All possible care will be taken in handling slides and paintings; however,
the Idaho Watercolor Society can assume no liability for the damage
and/or loss of slides or paintings.
